The composition's central subject is an injured soldier holding a waving American flag in one hand and a gun in the other as soldiers in the background advance the front lines. The colors are bold and bright. The expression of the subject is enigmatic and captivating. The work is artist signed in the lower left corner. Undated, the painting is framed a beautiful gold gesso frame. The canvas is on a wood stretcher and nailed. Judging from the frame and canvas, we estimate this dates from around the 1920s or 1930s.

The frame measures 28 inches high, 21.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep. The painting is approximately 23.75 inches high by 17 inches wide. The border for frame is 2.5 inches wide.
