Set atop a beautifully veined two-tiered marble base, this Grand Tour era piece dates to circa 1880 and captures the dynamic tension of the original Roman statue with remarkable grace and movement.

The figure, drawn from the famed Borghese Gladiator — a celebrated Hellenistic sculpture rediscovered in the early 17th century and long admired for its anatomical precision — is shown mid-action, evoking strength, agility, and heroic poise. This particular statue stands 12.5" tall overall, with the gladiator himself measuring 9" to the head, mounted on a striking marble base measuring 8.75" wide by 3.75" deep, and 2.75" high. The bronze gladiator's separate base is 7.5" x 2", finely cast and bearing intertwined initials — "W" at center, flanked by "F" and "B" — on one end, as seen in photos. The piece weighs a solid 13 pounds, offering a commanding presence for shelf, mantel, or display cabinet.
