Opening its doors in 1930, The Pierre is located across the street from Central Park and a mile from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Hotel has since been a hub for celebrities, high-society events, and the location of several films and television shows. In 1936, socialite, Edith Bouvier Beale (later starring in the Maysles' 1975 documentary Grey Gardens), had her debutante ball at The Pierre. The tango scene in the film, Scent of A Woman, starring Al Pacino, was filmed in The Pierre's Cotillion Ballroom. The Pierre's penthouse is the home of Anthony Hopkins' character in the film, Meet Joe Black.
