Sir Walter Scott is considered the "father of historical fiction" and his Waverly Novels pioneered this genre of novels, heralded as one of the most popular book series in Europe for most of the 19th, into the 20th century. This rare complete set of 48 novels was printed by Adam and Charles Black in Edingurough in 1859. They are bound in green leather with raised bands, gilt spines, and marbled edges & endpapers. Illustrations throughout.
These came directly from a private collection in London, have been well-loved but remain in near-perfect condition; several novels appear to never have been opened. Truly an uncommonly lovely addition to any antique book lover's collection.
