Vintage 1930s Cast Iron West Highland Terrier Dog Doorstop
Charming 1930s cast iron doorstop featuring a proud West Highland White Terrier standing on a grassy plinth with gold scroll detailing. Likely produced by an American foundry such as Hubley or National, this piece captures the era’s affection for terrier breeds — a fascination that grew immensely after President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s beloved Scottish Terrier, “Fala,” became a national sensation.
While Fala himself was a Scottie, the popularity of terriers of all types — especially the cheerful, snow-white West Highland Terrier — surged throughout the 1930s and ’40s. This hand-painted example, with its soft ivory finish and green base, embodies that period’s craftsmanship and charm.
A wonderful piece for cottage, traditional, or eclectic interiors, this cast iron pup serves equally well as a decorative doorstop, bookshelf accent, or collectible sculpture.
