A rare and refined uchiwa (round paddle fan) from Japan, made for the prestigious Takashimaya department store in the 1960s.
Dimensions: height 50 cm, width 35 cm, depth 1 cm.
The fan depicts a seabird in flight over a foaming ocean, rendered in soft blue and white tones that blend sky and sea into one. The composition conveys freedom and the beauty of movement.
Signed by Gendō (玄堂) at the lower right, and marked on the reverse with the Takashimaya logo. Wooden handle and finely ribbed paper surface that reflects the light beautifully.
In excellent condition, with only minimal signs of age.
An elegant and poetic piece of Japanese design — symbolizing summer, air, and light — ideal as a decorative art object in a contemporary or Japanese-inspired interior.
