A rare and refined uchiwa (round paddle fan) from Japan, made for the prestigious Takashimaya department store in the 1960s.
Dimensions: height 50 cm, width 35 cm, depth 1 cm.
The fan depicts a solitary cormorant gliding through still waters under a crescent moon, with a verdant riverbank and temple steps in the distance.
Signed by Shōen (松園) at the lower right, and marked on the reverse with the Takashimaya logo. Wooden handle and finely ribbed paper surface that softly reflects the light.
In very good condition, with only minimal signs of age consistent with time.
A poetic piece of Japanese design — tranquil, evocative, and timeless — capturing the quiet beauty of a moonlit river scene.
