Rare set of two uchiwa fans from Japan, featuring a graphic design inspired by the historic Edo firefighters (hikeshi).
Dimensions: height 43 cm, width 20 cm, depth 1 cm.
The front side, in red and blue paper, shows the emblem of the To-brigade, one of the traditional Edo firefighting groups.
The reverse depicts two wooden name tags (nafuda) inscribed with references to the Koen Ikeuchi division, part of the Edo Firemanship Preservation Association.
This association, founded in 1939, preserves the firefighting traditions of the Edo period, including ladder acrobatics and the carrying of matoi standards during parades.
Made of bamboo and paper, with red cords at the base. In very good condition.
Highly sought after among collectors of Edo firemen memorabilia — authentic pieces rarely seen outside Japan.
Sold as a set of two (red + blue).
