A major figure in French furniture of the 1930s and 1940s, Dudouyt developed a rustic-modernist style: solid oak, relief sculpture, grooved moldings, sometimes turned legs, and corded seats. After starting out as a painter and decorator, he founded his own workshops in the 1920s (often grouped under the name La Gentilhommière) and created warm, robust and highly decorative furniture - now sought after for its character and quality of execution.
