Italian Plaster Sculpture of Moses Inspired by Michelangelo, Early 1900s. This plaster work recreates one of the masterpieces of Renaissance art, Michelangelo's Moses, inspired by the larger-than-life marble sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564). Created in the 16th century for the funerary monument of Julius II, it is housed in the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome. The figure of the biblical prophet has some small losses, in addition to the right arm, and has a warm, dark, grayish patina, likely due to old coloring. Iron reinforcements are visible at the corners of the lower base. It comes from a private collection and dates to the first half of the 20th century.
