The … Read more An exceptional napoleon iii secretaire adorned with sumptuous boulle marquetry, named after charles-andré boulle, cabinetmaker to king louis xiv. The intricate facade, in blackened pearwood, showcases rich chiseled brass inlays against a tortoiseshell background, creating a deep and refined contrast.
the brass inlays create intertwined scrolls, foliage, and arabesques that enliven the entire front and sides of the cabinet. The ornamentation is completed by chiseled bronze fittings: finely crafted trim, moldings, ingot molds, and keyholes, which reinforce the decorative and precious character of the cabinet.
the upper section opens with a drop-leaf flap framed by gilt bronze moldings, equipped with a functional lock and ornate key. The interior, in bird's eye maple, features three drawers edged with bronze rods and inlaid with brass fillets, fitted with small pull knobs. The drop-leaf is upholstered in red leather adorned with a gilded vignette and corner motifs, providing a beautiful writing surface.
