This Tulip lamp was designed in the early 1970s by Swedish architect and designer Yngve Ekström for Pileprodukter. Best known for his timeless wooden furniture — especially the iconic Lamino chair from 1956 — Ekström made a rare and playful venture into plastic design with this elegant piece.
Crafted from white acrylic with clear details, the lamp features a distinctive orange inner shade that diffuses the light into a warm, cozy glow. The petal-shaped form evokes the silhouette of a tulip, reflecting Ekström’s organic design sensibility and his Scandinavian Modern aesthetic.
Uniquely, Ekström designed the Tulip to be used either as a table lamp or as a pendant lamp, making it both sculptural and versatile. Despite his usual preference for natural materials such as wood, this design shows how he brought warmth and sophistication even to acrylic.
