She wears a wide white blouse with a pussy-bow collar, topped with a gray-green bodice. A large black hat, adorned with green and ochre feathers, frames her face and accentuates the softness of her expression. The background consists of a rich red drape contrasting with a landscape sketched in the lower left, in keeping with the fashion for late 18th-century English aristocratic portraits.
