This is a large and beautiful oil on canvas painting of the Grand Canal with a view of San Simeone … Read more This is a large and beautiful oil on canvas painting of the Grand Canal with a view of San Simeone Piccolo by the renowned British artist Alfred Pollentine (1836-1890), signed and dated '77 on the lower right. This beautiful waterscape captures a striking view of the Grand Canal, it features a busy canal scene with sailing boats and gondoliers in the foreground, in the distance an excellent perspective with the church of San Simeone Piccolo on the left. Housed in it's original and beautiful gilt gallery frame. Several examples of his work have sold at top auction houses, see Christies, Sothebys and Bonhams. Condition: In excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.
