The sculpture features a … Read more A large fine patinated bronze sculpture titled "Docklands Express" by Philip Blacker (1949- British), dated 1993. The sculpture features a horse called Docklands Express and jockey Peter Scudamore in action clearing a hurdle. It is signed on the base with incised initials, inscribed 93 and mounted on a stepped walnut base. This is one of eight made for the owners after the 1992 Grand National. This high quality hot cast solid bronze was produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method. A champion at Kempton and a podium finisher at Cheltenham, Docklands Express was the 15/2 favourite for the 1992 Grand National. Despite a strong start, the bay gelding - ridden by champion jockey Peter Scudamore - fell to a nonetheless respectable fourth-place finish as Carl Llewellyn’s Party Politics came out on top.
