Signed 'Carl Hasch' lower right. Painting: 18.50 x 14.56 in Frame: 29.13 x 25.19 in Back: Stamp of the art supplies manufacturer CARL HASCH (* 8.11.1834 or 1835 (?) or 3.11.1836 Vienna Fuenfhaus, † 4.1.1897 Vienna) After completing his training at the Vienna Academy of Arts, Hasch undertook study trips to the Austrian Alps, the Riviera, northern Italy, Switzerland and Belgium. Following in the footsteps of the Biedermeier school (Steinfeld), Hasch depicted atmospheric evening scenes of forests and rocks. He became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1872. He established his reputation as a landscape painter with the exhibition of a large forest landscape at the Vienna World Exhibition in 1873.
