This vintage 9x9 Persian Kilim is a magnificent tribal flatweave, handwoven in wool circa 1950-1960. Originating from the Bidjar provenance, this piece is a striking exemplar of the Jajim style, defined by its bold, pieced construction and deeply saturated stripe patterns, making it a vibrant and compelling addition to the Rug & Kilim collection.
On the Design:
This rug is a powerful statement of geometric and color rhythm, a masterwork of tribal composition achieved through the distinctive Jajim flatweave technique.
The design is immediately striking for its rare, almost square shape, which adds a versatile architectural weight far beyond typical rectangular runners.
The visual field is divided into three vertical panels—a key trait of older Jajims woven on narrower looms and stitched together—creating a bold triptych effect.
The dominant palette is a dramatic tapestry of saturated, contrasting hues, favoring deep wine-red, warm cranberry, grounding olive-gray, and stark black.
The central panel breaks the horizontal rhythm with vibrant blocks of pattern, including stepped geometric motifs in hot pink, light beige, and sage green, adding an extra layer of visual complexity and rhythmic movement.
This layered composition, rooted in the nomadic traditions of the Bidjar region, offers a strong, contemporary graphic appeal fused with profound historical depth.
Condition:
This mid-century Persian Kilim further enjoys good condition for its age and origin, and is ready for the floor.
