Centered at the top of the … Read more Antique 19th century Italian carved gilt wood neoclassical oval mirror with griffins or griffons. Centered at the top of the mirror between the griffins is a carved woman's head that looks like Medusa except her hair is entwined with oak leaves and acorns and her head rests atop a fish scaled shield. Measures 49 1/2" tall overall x 22 3/4" x 2" out from the wall. A very handsome mirror and a rare form. The carved finials are deep and dimensional. There is wear and loss to the gilding with gesso showing through in parts and a few old patches. The mirror plate is an old replacement and in the photos is reflecting painted wood paneling. Presents very well. See less
