Exceptional Aesthetic Movement brass accent table by the Charles Parker Company of Meriden, Connecticut, circa 1880–1885.
This rare 19th-century design is documented in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (Accession No. 2008.153.3), where it is titled Table (Charles Parker Co., ca. 1880–85). The model features the same engraved fern-and-vine motif, pierced apron, and elegant curved legs that exemplify Parker’s most refined ornamental metalwork.
Constructed entirely of solid brass, this table reflects the height of the American Aesthetic Movement — a fusion of naturalistic design and precise industrial craftsmanship. Its engraved top and decorative stretcher embody the period’s fascination with artful detail and fine materials.
Condition:
Displays genuine age and surface wear consistent with its 140-year history. The brass has a naturally aged, unpolished patina; the original blue-toned surface seen on the Met’s example has largely worn away. One screw is missing from a leg joint, but the table remains structurally stable and well-balanced. No modern restoration.
Dimensions: 30"H × 19½"W × 13½"D
An authentic, museum-documented example of late-Victorian American design — both decorative and historically significant, seldom encountered outside institutional collections.
