Beautiful Japanese Dragonware tea set by Moriyama Mori-Machi, dating from the 1930s to 1940s. This 15-piece set includes:
1 Teapot (9-1/2" spout to handle x 8" high, holds 40 fl oz)
1 Large Creamer
1 Large Covered Sugar
6 Cups (6 fl oz, 2" high x 3-3/8" diameter)
6 Saucers (5-1/2" diameter)
Each piece is decorated with a raised relief dragon motif, hand-painted in soft pastels with brushed black shading and gilded details. The base glaze shows a pale rainbow of pastel tones, typical of early Dragonware designs.
Backstamp: Moriyama Mori-Machi, Japan
Era: 1930s–1940s
Condition: No chips, cracks, or excessive wear. Some gilding wear and factory blemishes such as light paint overspray or glaze spots, common in Dragonware of this period.
Dragonware became especially popular in the early 20th century for its intricate raised designs and mythological themes, often featuring dragons symbolizing strength and good fortune.
