The specific "geometric cloud" on the exterior is a variation of the Shippo-tsunagi (interlocking circles) or Seigaiha (wave) patterns, thin blue lines that look like "tails" or ribbons trailing off the main blue shape. This represents the silk cords used to tie a Makimono (scroll) or the knotted corners of a Furoshiki (wrapping cloth). which Seto potters used to signify high-quality "export grade" work from the 19th century. Seto was similar to Arita, diffrent location. A superior hand painted naturalism and large size set it apart from Arita Ware. See less
