A finely carved Grand Tour neoclassical plaque depicting the head of Medusa, dating to the late 18th to 19th century. The plaque is executed in a warm peach limestone (commonly used for Grand Tour souvenirs) and features exquisitely detailed hair and serpentine motifs. The classical subject references Medusa Rondanini, one of the most iconic Greco-Roman Medusa reliefs.
The plaque has been elegantly mounted within a velvet-lined shadowbox frame with a stepped giltwood molding, likely mid-20th century framing. This sympathetic presentation enhances the sculptural presence and makes the piece display-ready for any collection.
