These footstools exhibit the classic Gustavian style, Sweden's elegant, restrained take on French Neoclassicism (Louis XVI). Original painted and parcel-gilt finish. The light grey tone and aged patina are characteristic of authentic Swedish antiques. With symmetrical, clean form, classic tapered, fluted legs with carved rosettes at the knees. Upholstery is filled with horsehair.
Gustavian / Swedish Neoclassical, late 18th-early 19th Century.
Upholstery has been cleaned and is in good condition with age appropriate wear and some dark color stains but not distracting (they are little dots, not much noticeable). Can certainly be used as is or could be reupholstered.
