A rare and historically important medical book: "A Practical Treatise on the Diseases and Injuries of the Urinary Bladder, the Prostate Gland, and the Urethra" by S.D. Gross, M.D., published in Philadelphia by Blanchard and Lea in 1851.
This richly detailed work includes 106 illustrations and reflects the surgical knowledge and anatomical precision of mid-19th-century American medicine. Gross, a professor of surgery at the University of Louisville, was a leading figure in the development of urological procedures and pathological anatomy.
The book's worn brown cloth cover, frayed spine, and yellowed pages show that it has been in a medical library or practitioner's study for a long time. A crest bearing the Latin motto “Prorsum et Sursum” (Forward and Upward) adds visual and symbolic depth.
