Hammary Maisonette French Provincial Country Sofa Table Fruitwood Console
Circa 1970s Hammary Sofa Table, 22289-00. French provincial styling with a scalloped top and serpentine body over cabriole legs. Made from fruitwood.
Hammary presented Maisonette, their newest table collection "a la francaise" in the late 1970s. This exciting group proves that the classic grace of French Provincial has aged beautifully and suits today's trend to traditional perfectly. Graceful gallic curves and understated French elegance are newly interpreted for the modern mode and are scaled a bit more diminutively.
About Hammary
In October 1943, after eight years working with furniture manufacturers in the Carolinas and Virginia as a sales representative of the Reliance Varnish Company and Central Glass Company, Hamilton Louden Bruce decided to try his hand at furniture manufacturing. Leasing a small building for $15.00 per month, he hired two helpers and started to manufacture canvas covered lawn chairs. Production amounted to 24 chairs a day. The company derived its name from Hamilton (Ham) and his wife, Mary (mary), therefore Hammary.
Late in 1947, Mr. Bruce dropped the lawn chair line and began to manufacture a group of occasional tables. With a briefcase full of sketches, Mr. Bruce made a quick tour of Eastern retail furniture outlets and came home with $200,000 in orders. This was prior to the first sample tables having been produced at the plant. In 1948, the company started producing mahogany and gum tables with leather and mahogany tops, shifting the next year to leather tops exclusively with all genuine Honduras mahogany.

The finish would benefit from some restorative effort to the top, to cover some staining. However, decorative objects or lamps could also serve useful to hide blemishes. The legs are in decent shape and could also use some buffing. It is a lovely piece. A narrowish table lending well to a hallway or entryway, or adjacent to other living, study or bedroom furnishings. less
