Beautiful very detailed (to perfection) Alabaster sculpture made after the painting "Birth of Venus" by Sandro Botticelli, painted in the mid 1480's.
The painting depicts the goddess Venus arriving at the shore of Paphos in Cyprus after her birth, emerging from the sea, fully grown into a woman.
The painting is currently on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
I imported this sculpture from Greece when I lived in Europe.
The makers mark is on the backside (see pictures).
The sculpture is in immaculate new state.
I have to note that the amazing details of this sculpture can not be compared to any other sculpture of the Birth of Venus. This is definitely a one of a kind available in the United States!
