This sculpture can go indoors or out. It’s a bit too heavy for a paper weight (16 lbs.), but it would look good on a table or desk as a piece of conversation. 7.75" high X 6" wide X 3.25" deep. This sculpture could be painted for a handsome and different look, like, lipstick red or canary yellow. It weights 16 lbs. Whether you call this piece a “A Slice of Life” or no title at all, it will make a nice addition to your home or office.
Created by the amazing self taught California artist Simi Dabah (b. 1927). Is this rusted industrial scrap steel sculpture, 7.75” tall. In fact, this sculpture we call “A Slice of Life”. This title was not given by the artist as his title is in fact the date it was created. This bold and thick slice of steel is welded to its base where the label and stamped signature are shown. “Simi Dabah - 2/9/18”. (One of the photos show the signature plate, however because of the rust it’s extremely hard to read).
Dabah created this sculpture at his Los Angeles studio and transported it to his 8 acre property in Joshua Tree, CA where it was acquired directly from the artist himself. It’s rather difficult to see from the photos provided that the rectangle slice of steel is thinner at the top and thicker at the base
Dabah started welding with mostly huge pieces of reclaimed steel parts. And from the shapes and finds he created this unique piece of abstract art. In fact, beginning in 1970 he created more than 2000 sculptures. See a photo of the artists art exhibit in the gallery Colin Fisher Studios in Cathedral City, CA. Plus, a photo of the artist himself in front of a 20 foot sculpture.
Dabah donated or sold each one of his sculptures for charity, taking zero dollars for himself. Therefore, there are hundreds of his sculptures in public places. In one of the additional photos, see a picture of a one man show at the Colin Fisher Studios in Cathedral City, CA in 2011. Dabah’s art besides public spaces is widely collected, the only disadvantage to all of his work is that it is extremely heavy. Which is even more amazing considering that Dabah himself only stands at 5’7” tall, and many of his sculptures are as tall as 20 feet.
