Magnificent piece of fine craft by California artisan, Dan Kvitka (b1958), circa 1999.
Finely lathe turned sculpture, created from a Thuya burl. Thuya is a rare and protected species in Morocco and a burl of this size is uncommon, making this a very special piece. The orange/red color is beautifully accented and contrasted with the wide range of grain patterns that seem to actually move across the surface. Beautiful object, exceptional craftsmanship.
The sculpture measures 13.25"x 13.25"x 7.5". Has naturally occurring variations within the wood, but no apparent imperfections/damage. Minimal/nil handling wear. Signed, numbered and titled to foot.
