An early American lift-top blanket chest with drawers, crafted circa 1790–1810, likely in Connecticut. The piece features a hinged lift-top compartment above three graduated drawers, all joined with hand-cut dovetails and fitted with period-style brass batwing pulls. Constructed primarily of pine with a cherry or mahogany finish, it retains its warm original surface and solid bracket base with scalloped apron.
The chest includes handwritten provenance notes and a 2008 purchase receipt from Old Saybrook Antiques Center (CT), documenting family ownership through the Woodruff, Griffin, and Andrus families of Granby and Hartford, Connecticut. These records accompany the piece in protective sleeves.
Beautifully proportioned and historically rich, this chest bridges colonial practicality and Federal elegance — a rare survival with regional lineage intact.
