This work is part of the Au Solei du Plafond portfolio produced in 1955, thirty years after its creators conceived it. Juan Gris's lithographs accompany a book of twenty poems by Pierre Reverdy and are based on designs from 1916-1917 and 1925-1927.
In 1910, already settled in Paris, Juan Gris met Pierre Reverdy through Max Jacob. In 1916, Léonce Rosenberg, Gris's dealer, brought them together to create Au Solei du Plafond. The portfolio was supposed to consist of twenty etchings accompanying each poem, but due to Gris's early death in 1927, only eleven were produced. This work therefore constitutes a unique document and a tribute from his friends to an artist who passed away prematurely.
They were printed by hand on the presses of the Mourlot Workshop (Paris) in 1955 for the Tériade publishing house on Vélin de Arches paper. The total edition is 250 numbered copies, signed in pencil by Pierre Reverdy in the colophon. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
