This vintage Korean 'Hat Box', as some call it, was acquired at estate auction and is in very good condition. The wood is strong and there aren't any breaks or splits. The hardware is is all present and works as expected. The finish has some shinier and duller areas, but is fully finished and shows off the rich merlot color well.

This little octagonal cabinet can be very versatile. Whatever your intended function for it is, it should be able to accommodate your needs. As far as the type of wood itself is concerned, when I turn the cabinet over and look at the unfinished bottom of the underside- it looks like mahogany grain. However, the grain of the top and sides, visible under the clear finish look like pine to me.

As mentioned in the title, there is a lock- However, we could not find a key for this lock, so one would have to be obtained or you can use the cabinet without locking it. The double swing out doors stay shut when closed and the O ring affixed to the right side stays resting on the left side loop where the post from the lock is to be inserted. Another type of lock could also be used if desired- one whose post fits inside the hole of the loop in order to create a fully lockable cabinet again. The inside of the closed loop on the left side is about 1/4 inch in diameter.

A great feature of this cabinet is that the bottom and underside doesn't appear to be compromised by moisture in any way ( see the 2nd to last picture ) like so many other old cabinets. You have the confidence of acquiring a cabinet where the wood has better integrity and the joints and finish have not been subject to the effects of adverse atmospheric elements.

The paper that lines the inside is all intact. On the inside bottom, however, there is a number 95 written. I don't know why.

This weighs 11 pounds before packaging and can be shipped in a box.
