A lovely still life of … Read more Jehan Daly (British 1918-2001) small scale floral still life oil painting on board of roses. A lovely still life of pink flowers with delicate rounded petals and yellow centers on dark green stems laid on a warm-toned brown ground. Signed and dated '55 lower right. Presented in a gilt wood frame with an inner trim of foliate relief. Good condition - wear to frame. Presents well.

Born of French and Irish parents, Jehan (pronounced John) Daly was noted for his draughtsmanship. He enrolled at the Royal College of Art in 1937 and in 1939 enlisted in the Royal Engineers. After the war Daly lived in Fulham where he painted for thirty years. Daly took up a teaching post at St Martin’s School of Art. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the New English Art Club, and had one-man shows at Agnew’s, the Maas Gallery, and at Martyn Gregory. See less
