French soup tureen made by L'Épargne Toulouse. It is a rare item of terre de fer, ironstone, from the eglantine series, produced between 1880 and 1886.
The plant decoration is refined blue/green transferware with a floral motif of three stylised bouquets composed of wildflowers, including poppies, lungwort and wild herbs. The handles are particularly beautiful.
The mark on the underside was used from the 1870s onwards.
Clearly it could be used for many things, serving pasta, serving fruit salad, a fruit bowl or just as a decoration piece.
It is in good condition for its age and without cracks but there are marks of previous use and tea-staining visible from age. There is crazing on the surface.
