Beautiful terracotta sculpture from Japan, crafted in Tokoname during the 1970s, complete with its original packaging and accompanying document.
Dimensions: height 25 cm, width 35 cm, depth 11 cm
The piece depicts Daikokuten (大黒天) – the Japanese god of prosperity, agriculture, and good fortune – alongside a ram, the symbol of the Year of the Sheep in the Japanese zodiac (Jūnishi).
Daikokuten is shown holding his iconic mallethammer (uchide no kozuchi), believed to bring wealth and happiness. The ram represents peace, harmony, and gentleness, one of the twelve signs of the Japanese zodiac. Together, they embody abundance, protection, and inner calm.
Made of fine red terracotta with a smooth finish, the sculpture is in excellent, undamaged condition.
A striking decorative and symbolic piece with a warm, earthy presence that carries both spiritual and aesthetic significance.
A rare example of Showa-period Tokoname ware, where Japanese tradition and craftsmanship meet in perfect harmony.
