Dress a wine cellar, or serve a fine Château Margaux in style with this antique wine-tasting table, known as a table de vigneron. Crafted in France around 1860, these practical tables were traditionally used in vineyards and cellars for sampling wine and were often designed with tilting tops for easy storage. This example, however, no longer folds, giving it sturdier functionality as a permanent dining or center table.
The oval walnut top displays attractive grain patterns and a warm, mellow patina developed over generations of use. It rests on a trestle-style base with a central support and arched braces terminating in shaped feet, lending both stability and rustic charm. The simple yet refined design embodies the practical elegance of French provincial craftsmanship.
The table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with rich surface character that enhances its antique appeal. Versatile in function, it would serve equally well as a small breakfast table, a wine-tasting table in a cellar, or an occasional table in a French country kitchen.
