Brodtmann (1787–1862), a Swiss lithographer celebrated for his natural history and ethnographic works, produced a remarkable series of world peoples during the early 19th century, combining scientific observation with artistic elegance. The composition shows a woman and two men, all dressed in detailed robes and garments. The woman holds a fan and wears an elaborate headdress, while the men are shown in flowing layered clothing with embroidered patterns. Such depictions reflect the European fascination with China during this period, when travel accounts and illustrations helped introduce faraway cultures to Western audiences.
