An abstract detail study of one of the many substantial stone pillars inside the Cathedral of the Holy Cross of Orléans (Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d’Orléans). Cool and warm greys merge into black, capturing the weight and texture of centuries-old stone. The cathedral, a masterpiece of both Gothic and Gothic Revival architecture, has stood for hundreds of years and was a place Joan of Arc visited regularly. The work is titled Richter in reference to the tonal qualities and the memory of Gerhard Richter’s seminal painting Skull (1983).
