This beautiful octagonal painting depicting a gentlewoman was executed by a French master belonging to the circle of Pierre Mignard, a 17th century French painter and leader of French Baroque portraiture. The woman depicted in the painting holds a sort of bouquet of flowers in her right hand as she turns her gaze to the observer. The gentlewoman wears a dress that appears simple but is decorated with stones and jewellery. The hairstyle, on the other hand, is rather simple, and the unruly curls are left loose so as to frame her face. The frame, octagonal like the canvas, made of wood with gilded decorations enriches this work. See less
