This striking bronze plaque by famed British artist Trevor Southey captures the delicate beauty of a rose in full bloom, expertly crafted with intricate textures that showcase the artist’s signature attention to detail. The petals are delicately formed with visible layers, and there is a single stem with thorns extending above the flower, emphasizing the dichotomy. The artist’s use of patina gives the piece an aged, weathered appearance, with different shades of dark bronze and hints of gold that highlight certain areas, adding contrast.
The plaque can be displayed as-is for a more organic look or framed in a custom frame or shadowbox to enhance its three-dimensional elements. Whether mounted on a wall, placed on a stand, or framed, it would make a perfect addition to any art collection or a thoughtful gift for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship.
This is a limited edition sculpture, and is signed and numbered 32/150 by the artist.
Trevor Southey (1940–2015) was a British artist renowned for his distinctive and expressive figurative art. Growing up in South Africa, he was profoundly shaped by the vibrant cultures around him, which became central to his art. Southey explored themes of the human figure, beauty, and the spiritual experience. His works often featured intricate detail and a deep exploration of form, color, and emotion.
Southey emigrated to the United States in 1965, settling in Utah, where he became a central figure in the state’s artistic and LGBTQ communities. His classical training and interest in Renaissance ideals gave his art a timeless quality, and he became known for works that emphasized clarity, balance, and symbolic resonance.
In 1985 he relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area; his children eventually joined him there. His artistic career continued to grow and he accepted commissions throughout the U.S. and in Britain. He became known for his figurative paintings and sculptures.
Trevor Southey’s contributions extend beyond individual works: he helped foster a climate of cultural enrichment in Utah and beyond. His art is included in museums and collections internationally, admired for its blend of technical mastery, emotional depth, and universal themes. Southey’s legacy lies in his ability to merge African roots, classical ideals, and personal truth into a body of work that continues to inspire reflection on beauty, tolerance, and the human condition.
