2-Seat Sofa Model 115 by Theo Ruth for Artifort, Netherlands, 1950s This elegant 2-seat sofa, Model 115, was designed in the 1950s by Theo Ruth for Artifort, one of the most innovative and influential Dutch furniture manufacturers of the 20th century. As Artifort’s first permanent designer, Theo Ruth played a decisive role in shaping the company’s reputation for modern and forward-thinking design. Model 115 reflects Ruth’s unique approach, combining softly organic curves with refined proportions. The sofa features a rounded backrest and arms that flow seamlessly into the seat, giving it a sculptural, almost fluid silhouette. Supported by slender black legs joined by a stabilizing frame, the design achieves both lightness and structural integrity, making it equally practical and visually striking. This particular example remains in its original light blue upholstery, a rare and authentic feature that enhances its historical character. The fabric shows visible traces of use consistent with its age, and for daily or intensive use, we recommend new upholstery. However, many collectors value preserving the original condition as it represents the authenticity and mid-century spirit of the piece. The wooden frame and legs are in very good original condition, showing only minor wear, which underlines the excellent preservation of this 1950s sofa. Compact in size yet full of presence, the sofa is versatile enough to serve as a centerpiece in a living room, a stylish accent in a study, or a gallery-worthy design highlight. Its proportions also make it suitable for smaller or urban interiors, without sacrificing elegance or comfort. Dimensions: Depth: 80 cm (31.5 in.) Width: 140 cm (55.1 in.) Height: 79 cm (31.1 in.) Seat height: 44 cm (17.3 in.) This rare Theo Ruth Model 115 sofa embodies the craftsmanship, elegance, and innovation of Artifort’s early years. A true collectible for admirers of Dutch mid-century modern design. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
