Midweek Harvest feels like a natural companion to my earlier piece, Caught on Monday. Both were painted in my kitchen, where the light feels brighter and more direct than in my studio. That light shaped the mood of the work, inviting me to see the flowers with renewed attention. While Monday’s bouquet leaned toward pinks, this one carries a broader range — yellows, purples, and reds — colors that circle one another in a palette both balanced and rich.

Simplifying the background has become part of my evolving process. Here, I didn’t recreate the exact details of my kitchen — the oven, table, or wood grain — but instead reduced them into essential shapes and tones. The warm orange of the table adds a quiet glow, while the pared-down geometry behind the vase lets the flowers take center stage. It’s less about literal representation and more about distilling the scene into something alive with color and rhythm. The zinnias, short-lived as they are, seem to ask for just that kind of immediacy. See less
