Biography
Sonia Gold (1959) is active/lives in California. She is known for abstract portrait painting.
Sonia Gold was born and raised in Lithuania, former USSR. She received her Masters Degree from Vilnius University, Lithuania. In 1990 she immigrated with her family to United States, today she resides and works in Los Angeles, California. Her style is a mixture of romanticism and emotionalism with a strong contemporary, while also timeless perspective. The major themes in her work are human intimate portraits that capture raw human emotion and emerge out of abstract composition. She uses the human face as a prism of emotions, colors and light, specifically focusing on the eyes as they are windows to the soul and can truly depict a persons story, which contributes to the drama of the whole image. The art of Modigliani, Kandinsky, Diebenkorn inspired her work. Each painting has been layered with multiple acrylic and oil pigments, then etched, carved and varnished to achieve subtle depth and surface luminosity. See less
