A striking pair of glazed and gilded ceramic wall sconces depicting two characters from Venetian tradition and the Commedia dell'Arte: … Read more A striking pair of glazed and gilded ceramic wall sconces depicting two characters from Venetian tradition and the Commedia dell'Arte: Harlequin and a masked rower/gondolier. Harlequin (height 59 cm, width 22 cm, depth 13 cm) wears the classic polychrome diamond-patterned costume, with gold details and a black mask. The piece is signed and numbered 367 on both the head and body. The hands are removable, secured by electrical cables leading to the bowls, designed as lamp holders. In excellent condition: no restorations, only minor signs of firing and wear consistent with its age. The masked gondolier (height 57 cm, width 26 cm, depth approx. 14 cm) is depicted wearing a red and white striped shirt, blue trousers, and a yellow hat, in a lively pose. This piece also bears the signature Orosa (San Polo, Venice). One hand holds a bowl, the other covers the lamp holder on the bust. Condition: Some visible restorations are visible on the fingers of both hands (one finger reglued, a small loss, and a reglued fragment). Both works are distinguished by their dynamic sculptural rendering and brilliant polychromy with gold inserts, typical of mid-twentieth-century Venetian production.
