Kohn furniture manufacturer in 1905: the "728" series, part of the epochal "fledermaus" furniture series.

with its simple elegance, this series stands in stark contrast to the opulent and heavy furniture of the late 19th century. Form follows function: the only decorative elements are the slender, rounded legs and the tenons between them, which give the table its unmistakable silhouette. The fine polish highlights the natural grain of the wood, creating a distinctive ornament. Individual chairs from the series were on display the following year at the international art exhibition in milan (1906). Although the official model name was not "fledermaus," it became established both among experts and in common parlance. It originated from josef hoffmann's use of these designs as part of the furnishings for the legendary "cabaret fledermaus" around 1907. The "fledermaus" ensemble enjoyed such popularity that architect otto schönthal selected it for the stylish furnishings of the exhibition café at the famous art show in 1908. The "fledermaus" furniture series was so successful that it remained an integral part of the production program even after j. & j. Kohn was taken over by mundus ag. The same model was also produced, depending on production capacity, by the thonet furniture manufacturer, which later merged with mundus ag. This piece has an attribution mark,
