Pierre chapo b19 writing desk in patinated solid elm, france 1960s this patinated pierre chapo b19 writing desk is made of elmwood and was crafted in france in 1960. It was designed and manufactured by pierre chapo in his own atelier in gordes. The desk has a simple design that is complemented by its fantastic woodworking details, which were typical of the techniques used by pierre chapo. The desk is made of solid elm wood and boasts a stunning structure. It features several wooden joints and has a great patina, which is aesthetically pleasing and structurally necessary. The desk is highly versatile and can be used in different positions as the top weight balances on the cabinet. The cabinet has drawers, providing ample storage space. The desk is in excellent original condition and has a beautiful honey-colored tone with a fantastic original patina. Pierre chapo's work combines ancient woodworking skills and tradition with a contemporary approach. He mainly used solid oak, elm, teak, and ash in his distinguished pieces. After graduating from the parisian école nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in architectural studies, he traveled through scandinavia, central america, and the united states. Upon his return to paris, he opened his gallery on boulevard de l'hôpital 14 in 1958, where he displayed his and isamu noguchi's creations, among other artists. In 1960, he received a gold medal from the city of paris as a token of appreciation for his contributions to the city. The work by pierre chapo is comparable to the designs by charlotte perriand, and due to the increase in demand for these pieces, pierre chapo's work is highly sought after.
