Ebony … Read more As a lover of French Art Deco, I was delighted to have found this sleek console by Century Furniture. Ebony was a popular choice of wood during the Art Deco period, its dramatic grain elevating the piece of furniture to undeniable elegance. This console has three drawers, one centered in front and two on the sides. To achieve this look, ebony veneer was used to cover the top, sides and legs. The center of the top was covered in a lighter wood veneer, highlighted by two lines of white material. As a vintage piece, this console has a few condition issues to point out. The veneer on the front drawer is chipped (refer to picture 14). There are signs of wear on the top and some scuffs at the bottom of the legs. The first picture is actually the back of the console, which is the same as the front side except for not having a drawer in the apron.

I photographed this console outside right before sunset, so the pictures are darker than I wanted them to be. It will invariably look different in an interior setting under artificial light.

Since first listing this console, it has sustained some damage that I need to point out. The front right side had a crack in it that I filled in with wood filler which I stained in an attempt to match the striped wood veneer in that area (refer to picture 17). There is a gap to the left of the drawer on the right side of the console (refer to picture 16). I took this console to an antiques show in November 2025 and turned it around so that the back was facing forward (refer to picture 18). The front and the back are identical with the exception of the long drawer in the front. In the last picture, the drawer is not accessible as it faces the wall. I was devastated when the top of the console toppled over and hit the ground as it was going to be the crowning jewel of my booth at the antiques show. It was still very presentable as a place to display my Art Deco lamps. I have reduced the price to reflect this damage.
