Title: Tali-Sandhills
Artist: Yukultji Napangat (1970s-)
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Painted in early 2023.
Provenance: Comes with Certificate of Authenticity from the Australia Dream Art where the painting was originally purchased. Marked and stamped with the gallery 's catalog and info as well as signed by the artist.
The artist's dreaming Tali depicts the pattern of the sand in the deserts with their movement in the wind. The intricate abstract movement created by small dots presents a signature subtle but hypnotic visual effect that the artist is famous for.
Artist's biography: Yukultji Napangati was born around 1970s near Lake Mackay of the Gibson Desert in Western Australia. Yukultji is a Pintupi- speaking woman from the family of ‘The Last Nomads' who made news headlines worldwide, when they emerged out of the desert in 1984 and made their first contact with the outside world. The artist began painting for Papunya Tula Artists in 1996.
Yukultji gained major recognition as an artist in 2005 when her work was included in the 2005 Primavera exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Since then, Yukultji's unique style continued to develop, with the artist winning the prestigious Art Gallery of New South Wales Wynne Prize in 2018. The artist is most recognized for the highly detailed and hypnotic abstract pattern in her work. She uses uniform dot work to create bold, intricate lines across the canvas.
The artist's works are included in major collections throughout Australia and world-wide, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and the Hood Museum of Art, USA.
The painting is stretched without frame and ready to hang.
