This sculpture illustrates the legend of the founding of Rome: the she-wolf suckles the twins Romulus and Remus.

The original model, preserved in the Capitoline Museums in Rome, may have Etruscan origins (5th century BC), with the sculpture of the twins added at the end of the 15th century by Pollaiuolo.

Good overall condition, with old restoration and chips to the marble.

Late 19th century cast.
