The chest has a very rustic look … Read more Primitively decorated / painted bridal chest from Germany, from Mittel-Franken to be exact. The chest has a very rustic look and shows plenty of character. The whole is decorated with a stripe motif and the panels on the front are decorated with village scenes and tulips. The chest is in neat but used condition. There are sporadic traces of old woodworm, which have obviously been checked and treated. It used to be customary to give wedding furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. This furniture was then placed on the farm in a showroom that was only rarely used for high visits or special occasions. So a beautiful and decorative piece of history. This one dates from 1834. 85cm high, 143cm wide, 62cm deep. See less
