Elegant closet designed and made by Guillerme et Chambron, France, 1950s, produced by their atelier Votre Maison (Lille). Made of solid light oak, it features doors with geometric diamond-pattern inlays and two original green glazed ceramic handles, which control a special central locking system. The piece of furniture, with great constructive rigor and formal refinement, fully reflects the aesthetics of the two French designers, characterized by sober lines, natural materials and sculptural details. The ceramic handles are attributable to artist Boleslaw Danikowski, a collaborator of Guillerme et Chambron, and lend uniqueness and value to the piece. Internally, the closet is organized with shelves and a hanging bar, proving to be as functional as it is decorative. The duo Guillerme et Chambron (Robert Guillerme, 1913-1990 and Jacques Chambron, 1914-2001) founded the famous company Votre Maison in Lille in 1949 in collaboration with cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq. The two designers had met during World War II, under dramatic circumstances, forging a friendship that was destined to turn into a creative partnership. In the postwar period, their production, developed mostly in waxed oak, interpreted the new trends of mid-century European modernism in a French way, favoring functionality, sturdiness, and sculptural details. Peculiarities of their furnishings were ceramic handles (often made by Boleslaw Danikowski), ingenious locking systems, and a language that was restrained but always rich in personality. The philosophy of Votre Maison-"your home"-was to design furniture truly intended for everyday use, but with the expressive force of true works of design. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
